Introduction to ontologies [Webinar]

Overview

Ontologies are now widely used in bioinformatics and are becoming increasingly important within the life sciences. You’ve probably heard of ontologies, but what do you really know about them?

During this webinar you will hear from our Head of Ontologies Jane Lomax who will provide an introduction to the concept and use of ontologies within the life sciences. We will discuss how ontologies can help tackle your organisations data challenges, maximize findability and discoverability, and get you on the road to clean data.

You will learn:

  • What is an ontology: from controlled vocabularies to semantically rich ontologies
  • Why scientific data needs ontologies and how you can use them
  • Hear how SciBite uses ontology-led semantic technology to help global life sciences companies get more from their data
Jane Lomax
Head of Ontologies, SciBite

Jane leads the development of SciBite’s vocabularies and ontology services. With a Ph.D. in Genetics from Cambridge University and 15 years of experience working with biomedical ontologies, including at the EBI and Sanger Institute, she focussed on bioinformatics and developing biomedical ontologies. She has published over 35 scientific papers, mainly in ontology development.
