Talking to TERMite – introducing the SciBite scripting suite

We’re pleased to announce that we’ve given our TERMite Toolkit an update, including updating our Python Toolkit. We’re also excited to introduce our new R module. Read more in this blog post.

TERMite (TERM identification, tagging & extraction) is the ultra-fast named entity recognition (NER) and extraction engine at the heart of our semantic analytics software suite.

The TERMite Toolkit suite is the complete solution for using SciBite technology to work with data in the scripting languages Python and R. We’re pleased to announce we’ve given our Python Toolkit an update and we’re excited to introduce our new R module.

What’s new in the Python Toolkit update?

As you likely know, Python is one of the most popular programming languages in the world, and its popularity is still growing. In fact, it’s currently number 3 on the TIOBE index, top of the PYPL index and loved and wanted by developers. As an information professional, it’s likely you will be familiar, and SciBite’s Data Science team are definitely fans, which is one of the reasons why we have built the Python Toolkit.

Toolkit modules: 

  • TERMite – easily create and post termite API requests 
  • TExpress – easily create and post texpress API requests 
  • Utilities – make calls to the utilities API such as autocomplete
  • Prep – use TERMite to prepare your data for machine learning tasks

Look out for new functionality in the latest iteration of the Python Toolkit, including support for pandas dataframes (TERMite and TExpress), making calls to TERMite’s autocomplete API (utilities) and the ability to substitute TERMite hits in-situ (prep).

Introducing the new R Toolkit module

R is another language, written specifically for data analysis and statistics, that’s popular with statisticians and bioinformaticians. The core Python Toolkit functionality is now available as an R package.
